Brazzaville Foundation

SFG Co-founder and Executive Director, Ilmas Futehally, was appointed as a new member of the Advisory Board of the Brazzaville Foundation for Peace and Conservation at its meeting in London on 20th April 2018. The Foundation also welcomed two other new members along with her: Amama Mbabazi, former Prime Minister of Uganda, and Kgalema Motlanthe, former President of South Africa.

Ilmas has been closely cooperating with the Brazzaville Foundation since its inception. It was founded by Jean-Yves Ollivier, a French businessman turned peace maker in Africa. Ollivier was a key actor in ending the African Cold War and is currently involved in the issues facing the continent.

HRH Prince Michael of Kent is the Patron of the foundation and Sir David Richmond, a former UK diplomat with long experience in Iraq, is the CEO. Other members of the Advisory Board include Nobel Peace Laureate Jose Ramos Horta, Senior Finnish Minister Par Stenback, former Guinea Prime Minister Kabine Komara, South African leader Matthews Phosa and SFG President, Sundeep Waslekar. Cecilia Attias, former First Lady of France, and Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo are also Advisory Board Members.

The Brazzaville Foundation, in cooperation with Strategic Foresight Group, developed the concept of the Congo Basin Blue Fund. The initiative is now owned and managed by the countries of the Congo Basin with assistance from the Government of Morocco, Germany and UNDP.

The Brazzaville Foundation is also concerned about the impact of counterfeit medicines for the poor populations of Africa and the role of criminal networks the trade of counterfeit medicines.

It is involved in several critical conflict resolution and confidence building initiatives in different parts of the continent.
